Three weeks of fevers over 102 degrees, 3 antibiotics, x-rays, urgent cares, doctor visits and a super sick little girl landed us at Palomar Hospital!
I had spent a lot of money over the weeks between doctor visits, urgent cares and medication. When I arrived at the Pediatrician's office, I was a few dollars short of a co-pay. I was embarrassed because I had not another dollar to my name... or a credit card... or a debit card... actually, not even a penny. They were refusing to see Raegan because I was three dollars short. Being eight months pregnant and quite fragile, I began to cry. The lady at the front desk felt bad and gave us an appointment.
Drama.
Then the Pediatrician informed us that Raegan needed to be admitted to the hospital.
More Drama.
Raegan's eyes began to swell up with tears. She looked Kylee in the eyes and dramatically told her that she would be just fine. You could see the fear in Raegan's face.
Kylee began to cry.
"Your gonna die!" She wailed.
Jaida began to cry.
Everyone was crying.
When we arrived at the hospital, Raegan's temperature had spiked to 104 degrees. The nurses immediately grabbed bags of ice to help bring her fever down. She received the royal treatment and thoroughly enjoyed the attention. She was given a special teddy bear, had her own television, phone, bathroom, bed that moved up and down and unlimited access to popsicles.
I was sure she would never want to come home.
The first night was quite the scare.
The nurse was throwing around the word "meningitis" and scaring Jason and I to death. They hooked her up to an I.V. and began drawing blood and running labs. They knew she had pneumonia but they thought there was something underlying due to her unresponsiveness to the antibiotics.
The words "spinal tap" is very concerning.
It was a rough night.
She had only been on antibiotics to treat the bacterial pneumonia.
They immediately began pumping her full of two hard core antibiotics intravenously.
She also continued her breathing treatments.
It was a relief to finally know what had made her so sick for half her summer!
Poor girl.
We kept her well entertained with visitors and presents.
We even gave eachother makeovers!
Raegan asked me how I wanted my makeover,
"Mommy... do you want gothic, hootchie mama or pretty?"
How does my eight year old even know what gothic or hootchie mama is, anyway???
She was welcomed home with a huge banner made by our sweet neighbors.
Her friends from church had also made her an adorable card wishing her well.
Raegan felt very loved.
The ward provided us wonderful meals.
We are so grateful for our family and friends and all their love and support.

Wow, you really need a vacation...I hope everything goes better now that you are going to have another little one! LOL
oh my goodness! hugs and kisses to you all. i am happy that she is home and that you were able to use your powers of persuasion to get her treated. i don't want to think what would have happened if they didn't let you have the visit. jerks!
scary times- so happy she is ok - never knew the $$ part - I almost cried reading it - I am sorry!
So sorry she was so sick, but what a sweet story. Miss you so much. I wanna see your sweet little babes. Glad everyone is better now.
oh my goodness jen, i am so sorry. wish i was there to help in some way. our thoughts and prayers are with your sweet family.
So weird... Mark had pneumonia too. The Doctor said he might be dead in three days without antibiotics. Guess what? He didn't take them, and he got better anyway.
SOOOO glad that's over with! And she's back to her normal, happy self!
